  Wilson Residence

Residence 1
Entry x300

The plan layout of this home steps up a hillside while funneling the outdoors inside in a snail shell shape design. Interior living spaces blend to exterior features, such as indigenous landscaping and water features of pools and waterfalls. The use of stone and wood siding, rounded forms, canopy trellises, enclosing railings and stone walls make the building seem to flow into the site. Sheltered areas amid native plantings create a private setting and minimize the overall volume, thereby reducing energy needs.

By melting into the hill and emphasis on insulation materials in roofs, walls, and floors, the shell limits its skin exposure to the weather.
